An eye on grapevines in October

Or rather grapes :-), because the harvest season has finally come. Hooray!

The header shows an image of the mind-boggling forest in the area (crossed by power lines in the foreground…) and the neighbour’s vineyard, which is very neat and tidy as is normal for conventional grown grapes.

The organic vineyard all my photos of this series come from is much wilder, more diverse, and of course gentle with the environment.

October brings a diverse range of weather patterns, from rain over dense fog to clear blue skies. Temperatures can go from autumnal low ones to summer highs.

Fog makes walking around in the vineyard mystical.

Both sheep and Lady Bird in steep and foggy terrain 😉

The cattle herd is also out and about still munching on green grass and not minding the fog at all. Quite a breakfast scenery, isn’t it?

And what about the clever way of hunting by building webs? Spiderwebs look especially intriguing now.

Which weather do you think is preferred by grapevines? Left or right?

Grapevines are picky and do not like wet weather. They are more the summer and sunny type of plants. That is why they are always planted on the south side of hills, areas, and mountains. A lot of sun and dry conditions are their favourite. Also, mildew attacks happen much less when grapevines feel good :0). It is the same as with our immune system.

When do you feel good? When is your immune system strongest?
Do more of what makes you happy!

As teasing you in the beginning of this post, in the vineyard the time of harvest has finally come. Look at the bounty!

It is a very tough work, however, and every hand is needed.

A winegrower’s reward after a year of continuous hard work.

The grapes are now transported to and processed by the organic winemaker in the region and stay there in wine barrels for the next couple of months.

You can expect some wintery views of the vineyard in December, so please stay tuned.

Others have a more relaxed lifestyle on the Lindenhof and walk around free range.

Or find time to be stunned by the lifting fog and still juicy green in October.

Hopefully, you find time to not only be amazed by nature, her cycles, and the bounty autumn brings with it, but also to harvest what you have achieved on all levels so far in your life. The idea of the latter was put forward to me by a special someone and I am so grateful for it I wanted to share it with you.

Now is the time to celebrate all of that. Are you in there with me?

Let’s harvest and be proud and joyful,

Daniela
