Sweet old lady

Good day dear readers, how are you in this moment?

Let me share some of my week as the story I tell you today emerged on Tuesday. It was splendid, we laughed a lot in my classroom, I spent time on the balcony with my hubby enjoying warm summer evenings (albeit unusual in September ) by candlelight and as I am writing to you I am in the train on my way to my favourite region in Switzerland. The French-speaking part. More precisely, today I go where my beloved grandma used to live and the place is actually bilingual as it sits right where the German- and French-speaking part meet.

Coincidentally, the heart-warming story I love to share with you today is also about a granny.

Hello everyone out there

How are you in these demanding times of the coronavirus?

A lot of my time is spent online right now, be it on news apps or social media or WhatsApp. These historic times are still so intangible.

What I see in the online world now, however, reminds me so much of a touching experience I made loooong before the coronavirus. Today is a good day to share it with you. Read more

O Cantinho da Emília

Do you like pizza or do you loooooove it? Isn’t a good pizza something you could eat on a regular basis? It is a big yes from me.

Having said that, it may not be that easy to get a real good pizza. Unless you prepare it yourself or live in Italy or have an authentic Italian pizzeria in your neighbourhood. Hands up who has!

Surely, you know the pizza takeaways. They look the same from the outside all over the world, don’t they? And the pizzas usually taste not that special. But they make for an easy dinner now and then.

On Pico in the Azores, we felt like eating something different and chilling on our balcony enjoying the sea view after dining out several nights in a row.

In an earlier post, I already told you a bit about Pico’s capital Madalena. It is a little town where you can do everything on foot and can’t get lost. On our walk way home one night we stumbled over a pizza takeaway. It was closed, but we kept the availability of pizza in mind. Read more

Of chocolate and cake

I am sitting in the train eating my box of admittedly a bit boring but obviously very healthy and nice tasting curry rice I prepared for myself the evening before, when two people, a teenage girl and an elderly man, join me in the four-people compartment.

I am about to make space for the man when he says: “Oh, don’t worry, I don’t wanna disturb your having lunch, I can sit vis-à-vis.” “You don’t disturb me.”, I reply.

“I don’t want you to choke on your lunch when I nudge you while sitting down. You shall enjoy your lunch. By the way, your lunch looks very healthy, madam, I should have your habits.”, he continues. Read more

What do you see?

I went to see Dirty Dancing. Unfortunately, my husband was suffering from a flu and could not come with me. Finding somebody to accompany me on such a short notice was impossible. So, I went on my own. Best seats, sixth row, close to the center.

When I arrived and wanted to go to my seat I had to pass someone, who was already sitting there wearing a bright yellow safety jacket. It is narrow between the rows of seats and one should best get up in order to let people pass. But somebody next to him said that he could not stand up. Okay, I said and did not further bother but decide to just inform him that I would pass now and that I hoped he was okay when my knees touched his. “I am fine”, the man gently said not looking up. I passed and made myself comfortable feeling excited to watch Dirty Dancing in a theatre. The seat to my right was of course empty and I invited the young lady and her mother, as I learned, to come closer and fill the gap. They happily moved a little more to the center. I found it awesome to see so many young people being interested in the movie, that hit cinemas back in 1987! The sixteen-year old even said: “Oh mama, why did we not live back in 1963?” The year Dirty Dancing plays in.

Anyhow, today’s story is not about Dirty Dancing really – the show was good, but I prefer the movie with Patrick Swayze for obvious reasons :0) . Today’s story is about Fredy. The man with the yellow safety jacket sitting in the same row as I.
